Umno will appoint his nominee for the protection of the Chini state seat, which is now vacant after the death of Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Harun on 6 May.
Pahang Barisan Nasional Chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the group had captured a safe position in the 14th General Election ( GE14) and was prepared to protect the position. There is an understanding with Pas, such that all parties (Umno and Pas) would have no trouble determining which group should contest the Chini seat.
After attending an event to hand over land plot titles to 97 villagers in the Kampung Mambang hall, he said that this is the Umno seat that they captured in the last general election and will protect it.
Pahang Menteri Besar was accompanied by Pekan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Najib Razak. During GE14, both Umno and Pas competed in Chini until Abu Bakar received 10,027 votes against Pas Mohd Fadhil Noor Abdul Karim who received 5,405 votes and Mohamad Razali Ithnain of the PKR who won 1,065 votes.
After the death of Abu Bakar 60, the Chini State Assembly seat became vacant. He died of a heart attack in Kuala Lumpur Hospital on May 6.
Meanwhile, Najib, who is also the head of the Pekan Umno division, said that there were many contestants to contest the Chini state seat, but nothing was finalized. They have few names, but they haven’t gone in detail. Waht they do is listening to the voices of the citizens in Chini. So far, no names have been identified as candidates.
On reports that his son Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib, who is the Pekan Umno Youth Leader, would be selected as Umno’s nominee, Najib conducted talks that said he did not know who will be the candidate. It was speculated on social media that Nizar was among the prospective candidates shortlisted to run in the forthcoming Chini state seat by-election.
