Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have stated that he is unlikely to postpone the free banquet for the Chinese community in Port Dickson as Bersih 2.0 have warned that treating the voters is going to lead to an election offence. As a matter of fact, there is an ongoing controversy of Anwar on sodomy.
The PKR president-elect questions the electoral watchdog as to why he cannot organize dinners like the other candidates. He says why he can’t have dinner when the Chinese community wants to give dinner and when the other candidates are also having dinner. However, Anwar didn’t comment on which other election candidates are organizing free banquet for over 1000s of voters just the like the way he had planned to.
Yap Swee Sen, the Bersih 2.0 executive director have said that the dinner had been planned for 4, 000 people might be an election offence for trying to treat the voters. Section 8 of the Act stated that treating other than providing drinks, food, provisions, and refreshment during or even after the election is just for the purpose of influencing a person to refrain from or give their vote.
Choo states that the dinner which had been organized by the group known as Port Dickson voters group. However, he also suspects that the group comprises of the supporters of Anwar from out of the town.
Persatuan Muafakat One Belt One Road Malaysia along with 2 Chinese NGOs at Port Dickson have held dinner for the Lukut voters on 1st October. According a report, a donor from Hong Kong was the one to pay for the dinner. The dinner of 1st October is referred to by Stevie Chan, the independent candidate in the police report that accused Anwar of taking the bribe.
