The two governments, Singapore and Malaysia had unanimously agreed upon the suspension of Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail as said by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, the Economic Affairs Minister. The Gombak MP stated that the decision to postpone this project till May 2020 wasn’t made unilaterally.
He said that a series of discussions is known to have taken place in between the two governments prior to agreeing to the date to May 2020.
Azmin had been asked to comment on the report by some English portal that Lee Hsein Loong, the Singapore Prime Minister said that Putrajaya’s decision to cancel and then later defer the HSR project might have turned into a spiky dispute. He said that he understands the concern which has been expressed by the Prime Minister in the event that both of these countries couldn’t achieve any kind of resolution or agreement on the specific project. However, not the matter has been decided on amicably and they are looking forward to resume the project in the year 2020 which had been agreed by both the parties.
