KUALA LUMPUR –  The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will proceed with the President’s Cup competition that will open tomorrow, despite the announcement that Thomas / Uber Cup 2020 in Denmark will be postponed.

BAM president Tan Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria said that it is important to keep the players remain competitive after a long inactive brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that they also received an invitation from one of the countries in Asia to host the Asian circuit known as  ‘Asian Bubble in November’.

They are discussing the possibility of accepting the invitation after the World Badminton Federation’s decision to postpone the Thomas / Uber Cup 2020 competition.

BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh also favored that tournament proceeding as they have nothing to lose and the event will be broadcasted live.

The President’s Cup competition is a 2-day warm-up action for the national team that will be competing for the Thomas / Uber Cup from October 3 to 11.

However, the World Badminton Federation issued a statement today that it will be postponing the event in Aarhus after several countries withdrew.

The two-day team event simulation will be held at the Academy Badminton Malaysia.
