Polls watchdog Bersih 2.0 supporting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have warned against the Chinese free banquet which is to be held two night prior to Port Dickson voters for visiting the polls this weekend. When they had been contacted by Astro Awani, the director Yap Swee Sen stated that the dinner which has been planned for 4,000 people might be an election offence to attempt treating the voters. It is said that there are rumors circulating stating that they will be given free dinner. It is also clear in the Election Offense Act, Section 8 that treating is prohibited.
Yap has told the host of the show Sharaad Kuttan that the dinner shouldn’t happen; it might constitute an election offense. Section 8 of the Article states that treating grey area as it is difficult to prove that such an act might contribute to the change of vote.
Lukut Assemblyman Choo Ken Hwa has been reported to express his concern about the planned free dinner within his own constituency. Choo said that the dinner is organized by the group known as Port Dickson voters group. However, it is suspected that the group comprises of supporters of Anwar from out of town.
On 1st of October, Persatuan Muafakat One Belt One Road Malaysia and 2 Chinese NGO Port Dickson is known to have held a dinner for Lukut voters. It has also been reported that the donor belonging to Hong Kong had paid money for dinner. The 1st October dinner had been referred to by the independent candidate Stevie Chan in the police report only yesterday as the accused Anwar Ibrahim, Pakatan Harapan candidate to have taken bribe. Yap has also expressed his concern regarding the lack of separation in between the events which are held by the government and the political parties, citing the medal award ceremony at the military camp. This was were Anwar was the VIP guest.
