Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister said that he is going to Port Dickson in order to campaign for Anwar Ibrahim for eliminating rumors of the fall out with PKR leader. After chairing the presidential council meeting of Pakatan Harapan at Yayasan AlBukhary building, he stated that he and his party leaders are going to attend the October 8 function.
Earlier, Mahathir has said that he is not going to be a part of the campaign for the by-election. Nonetheless, he said that he decided on doing so as people had been saying all sorts of things regarding him. As a matter of fact, they mentioned a quarrel with Anwar. People said that he doesn’t support Anwar due to the quarrel.
He has also disregarded claims that Anwar has used the resources of the government to further the campaign of Port Dickson; following the reports that president-elect of PKR had attended the event with Mohamad Sabu, the Defense Minister.
It was not a government function and was a veteran one. There had been a minister their but it was not a ministry function. The event that is being discussed was a service medal presentation ceremony for the army personnel in Port Dickson. At the ceremony, Mohamad Sabu had assured that the welfare of the army veterans is going to be taken care of if Anwar is voted as the new MP.
Commenting on Bersih’s criticism of the federal minister who had been campaigning indirectly for Anwar just by showing up on campaign trail, Mahathir has said they were also party leaders. He says that they have to do a lot of party work and they do not get for this. He said that momentum was gathering in Port Dickson even though the people had been tired of the election. The October 13th election had been triggered by the resignation of Danyal Balagopal Abdullah who had stepped down in order to pave the way for the attempt of Anwar for returning to the Parliament.
