The Election Commission has called on the voters in parliamentary constituency of Port Dickson for checking the voting information through MySPR Semak Application in order to ascertain a smooth voting process. Azhar Azizan Harun, the EC Chairman has stated that the application can be downloaded into the mobile phone which will enable the voters to check out the electoral roll along with their channels before they go to the voting centers.
The application is going to reduce the physical checking at voting counters. This is being considered as a good initiative to use the technology for reducing the work of the officers on the poll day. He said this after noticing the early voting for the by-election of Port Dickson in the Segenting Camp of Port Dickson.
Azhar had visited 2 more early voting centers previously at the district police headquarters of Port Dickson and Army Basic Training Center. With a comment on the proceedings of the early voting, Azhar stated that it all progressed smoothly and EC have targeted the early voting turnout in order to be around 70%.
The by-election of Port Dickson is actually a 7-cornered fight which involves Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Pakatan Harapan candidate, PAS’s candidate Lt. Col (R) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar along with the 5 independent candidates, Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abd Samad, former Negri Sembilan mentri besar; Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, the earlier personal assistant of Anwar; Stevie Chan Keng Leong; Kan Chee Yuen: and Lau Seck Yan;
The parliamentary by-election of Port Dickson had been held after the Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah had vacated the seat on 12th of September in order to make way for Anwar to return to Dewan Rakyat. The parliamentary constituency of Port Dickson has 75,550 registered voters in the by-election. As a matter of fact, it comprises of 33% Chinese, 43% Malays, 22% Indians, and 2% other races.
