Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s former teacher, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Arshad has recounted the past incident when he made Anwar to turn red-faced for controlling his anger. Abdul Rahman didn’t state the actual date but he stated that the incident had occurred when he had been holding the holding the director general post of education while Anwar had been the education minister under the Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister’s administration.
At the official launching of e-Tuition Percuma, he said that if during a discussion he didn’t admonish him simply because he doesn’t want him to feel ashamed in front of the other people in the discussion but he would just enter his room and would tell him what he wanted. Anwar would turn red faced sometimes.
He also recounted an incident when Anwar had been offering a speech at the event that had been attended by the teaching faculty from various schools across Port Dickson. The brief of Abdul Rahman’s speech had been greeted with laughter from the people.
Anwar had been the education minister in between 1986 and 1991 when Abdul Rahman had been the director-general of education from 1985 to 1991. He is the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA and he said that Anwar was an individual who is greatly respected by his teachers and this attitude is still there in Anwar even if he holds such a high position.
At the Education Ministry, when Abdul Rahman entered his room, he stood up. He didn’t force Anwar to do but he wanted to stand all by himself. Abdul Rahman had been Anwar’s teacher when he studied at Malay College Kuala Kangsar.
Anwar said that he was a firm teacher and that he has taught him well. According to him, he has significantly contributed to his well-being.
