PETALING JAYA – Health Ministry reported that there is a slight increase in influenza-like-illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (Sari) recorded last month but still within normal range and similar to previous years.

Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said the figures from the National Public Health Laboratory in Sungai Buloh and the Institute of Medical Research on the virus did not show any sign of mutation leading to the emergence of a new influenza virus aka ‘the novel virus’.

The Ministry recorded a very low rate of influenza infection throughout last year.

Dr. Noor Hisham urged the public to maintain a high level of hygiene and practice good manners when it comes to coughing and also adopting a healthy lifestyle. He also advised the use of face masks to avoid the spread of infections through droplets of air.
