Tan Sri Isa Samad, the former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar expressed shock that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the PKR president-elect had planned to run in Port Dickson by-election.
Isa has stated that Anwar has an option to contest in Pandan, Permatang Pauh, and also some other seats that had been offered by the PKR lawmakers had given the option to empty and make way for him. Isa says that if Anwar is surprised to see him running then he is going to be surprised to see him run for Port Dickson.
Anwar has Pandan and Permatang Pauh. Some has also offered Sungai Petani and Nibong Tebal. But his question is why Anwar chose Port Dickson. The Permatang Pauh seat is to be held by the daughter of Nurul Izzah Anwar when the Pandan seat is going to be held by his wife, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the Deputy Prime Minister.
Isa is to run as an independent candidate in the Port Dickson by-election together with Anwar and five other candidates. He stated that he left Umno because his views about Barisan Nasional shouldn’t have been boycotted by the by-election. He considers it to be a good option for BN. Win or lose that is more important. However, it can be the platform to convey their views and also the criticism of the government which is a platform to be an efficacious opposition.
ISA says that he is not contesting against Umno but is going against the conventional enemies of Umno, PAS and PKR. Umno has been in opposition to PKR for 20 years and with PAS for 60 years.
If Umno is contesting then it is going to be a different story. Thus, there is no reason for BN and the Umno members not to support him since he is not going against them.
