Isa Samad, the former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar has lashed out at his former party Umno for sitting out Port Dickson by-election stating that the reasons for doing so is unreasonable and flimsy.
Isa who had quit Umno only last week for standing as one of the candidates against Anwar Ibrahim of PKR in Port Dickinson. He stated that he had been contesting the by-election as Umno wouldn’t. He says if the party had decided on contesting, many of the members would have helped out the candidate to challenge the present government.
He said that it has to be kept in mind that they are in opposition. Umno had been training the members for the role of opposition and it is just the best time to test them but they do not want it. The only reason is that they do not agree with the manner in which the by-election had been triggered. However, just because they do not agree, it doesn’t mean that they do not contest. This is surely an unreasonable and flimsy excuse.
The previous Umno warlord has also reproached the decision of the party to skip this by-election based on the resignation of the incumbent, stating that Danyal Balagopal Abdullah hadn’t breached any laws while stepping down to make place for Anwar.
According to him, this is the reason he had decided to participate in the by-election which will make him go up against president-elect of PKR, PAS’ Mohd Nazari Mokhtar and also Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, Kan Chee Yuen, Stevie Chan, and Lau Seck Yan.
Given the presence of the rivals of Umno, PAS and PKR, he also added that this is just the appropriate time for Unmo to showcase the unhappiness of people with the government of the day.
