PERRY Lim ‘s tenure in the country wasn’t long but it definitely left a unforgettable impression on the basketball in Malaysia. That’s because the American-born 22-year-old Perry takes the next step forward after being accepted into medical school.
The 1.95 m forward will begin his new term next month at the Rosalind Franklin University Medical School in Chicago in Illinois. It is certainly a loss of sorts, because since he was scouted and brought home, Perry has brought an added dimension to the national team. He ‘s played in the Sea Games in 2017 and 2019.
Born to Malaysian parents in Illinois, who originated from Penang, Perry soon became a favorite fan of the basketball world due to his strength , good rebounding, and sometimes powerful dunks. Nevertheless, Perry believes it’s important that he pursues his lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
He’s been lucky enough to know what he wanted to do when he grew up, since he was young. All his experience in academia and all the hours he spent in hospital volunteering, and the research he’s done, just helped him get one step closer to being a physician.
However, Perry has not ruled out playing again in the future for Malaysia. By playing in the local leagues in Chicago, I’ll try to stay active. Basketball will always be a part of my life, and without it, I’ll go crazy. He added that Representing his country has always been a fantasy, and if the chance is right he will certainly be back for more.
He also shared his statement that the same goes for the Matrix squad. He had always been accepted by his colleagues, coaches and squad creator Datuk Lee (Tian Hock). They’ve treated him like family and he loves to come back and play for them again if the chance allows.
