KUALA LUMPUR –Khazanah Research Institute (KRI) through the findings of its Time to Care: Gender Inequality, Unpaid Care Work and Time Use Survey that was released yesterday has suggested a proposal of the introduction of a monthly childcare allowance of RM100 to Malaysia households.

A monthly allowance that should be restricted to Malaysians that send their children aged up to four years old to childcare centers.

KRI research associate Nazihah Muhamad Noor said that childcare allowance is important to reduce gender inequality in the workforce.

Nazihah Muhamad Noor believed that families shouldn’t spend more than 10% of their monthly income to childcare cost.

The report by Khazanah Research Institute, spearheaded by its deputy director of research Christopher Choong was co-written by Adam Manaf Mohamed Firouz, Alyssa Farha Jasmin, Nazihah and Rachel Gong.
