PETALING JAYA – A total of 474 undocumented immigrants have been arrested in a massive anti-illegal immigrants operations nationwide.
The Immigration Department director-general Datuk Khairul Dzaimee Daud said that over 120 operations were conducted since the start of the new year, checking around 2,000 foreigners.
Law-enforcement agents detained 474 foreigners, Indonesians were the highest with 220, followed by China (89), Bangladesh (78), Myanmar (42), the Philippines (22) and others.
“Employers hiring illegal immigrants will also be liable under the Immigration Act 1959/63.” the director-general added.
The Home Ministry targets at least 70,000 undocumented immigrants this year after the department has given enough time to surrender through the B4G programme.
Khairul Dzaimee urged the public with information on illegal immigrants to contact the department.
