Speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Meeting, three countries including Malaysia have decided to launch a television channel to fight against Islamophobia.

The other two countries include Pakistan and Turkey. The leaders of all three countries met and decided unanimously to fight against the rising hatred against Islam due to the misconception created by terror factions around the world.

The three leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in a broad range of areas, an official statement from the Pakistani PM’s office confirmed.  It further added that Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia will exchange views on regional and global developments and trends.  

The channel, PM Imran Khan confirmed that the English TV channel will demystify the religion and clear misconceptions as a mark of respect for Islam and celebrating diversity in the world order.

“Misperceptions which bring people together against Islam would be corrected; issue of blasphemy would be properly contextualized; series and films would be produced on Muslim history to educate and inform our own people in the world; Muslims would be given a dedicated media presence,” he added on.

It is worth noting that the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey held the first ministerial trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 14th OIC Summit in Jeddah on May 30.       

Malaysia has a huge Muslim population which enjoys the freedom to practice its religion. The country respects diversity. The current political climate in Malaysia requires a leader that can keep both the majority of Muslims and other minorities feeling happy and well taken care of. Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s government is already aware that it will have to tackle a solid coalition being made by its two major opposition parties that have decided to move their interests towards the Malay Muslim community garner maximum support for a win in the forthcoming elections.
