KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian has been seriously injured in the volcano eruption which shook White Island in New Zealand yesterday.
Wisma Putra said the victim is in a critical condition and is being treated at Christchurch Hospital.
“However, the Malaysian High Commission in Wellington has not yet received further information on a Malaysian citizen who was reported dead,” it said in a statement today.
The volcano erupted on White Island, also known as Whakaari, 48km from the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, during a visit by a group of tourists.
Local authorities have confirmed that six people were killed, eight missing and more than 30 injured in the incident which occurred at 2.10pm local time (9.10am in Malaysia).
