KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian government is studying the reintroduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) if that is what people want, PM Mahathir Mohamad said on Thursday.
“If the people believe it is better, we will study,” he added.
The Malaysian Institute of Economic Research on Tuesday encouraged the government to reintroduce GST in the 2020 National budget with a rate of 3%.
GST, originally enforced on 2015 with a rate of 6% but was replaced by SST last year. However, PM Dr. Mahathir insisted that it was too late to include GST in the 2020 budget which will be discussed next Friday.
