The Election Commission has reminded the Cabinet members that the politician holding the Governmental position shouldn’t indulge in the campaign activities during the working hours for P.132 election of Port Dickson Parliamentary Constituency. Azhar Azizan, the EC chairman said that the activities of the campaign during the working hours are an abuse of the working hours. He said that the cabinet needs to be aware of the fact that the difference between the task as the members of the government and the member or the party leader.
Azhar has stated that the cabinet members shouldn’t use the assets and facilities of the governments for the purpose of campaigning. He has pointed out that the development of the project’s announcement in Port Dickson or pledges if the specific candidate wins might possibly turn out to be an election offense can be used as the basis of invalidating the election against any petition which can be filed.
Regarding approval being given to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat(PKR) de facto leader is to enter the military camps while PAS candidate is denied an entry, the Election Commission proposed that the military camps should give an equal opportunity to all the candidates subjected to the security procedure of the camps. It isn’t fair if one candidate is given the chance to campaign in the military camps while the other candidates were not given the opportunity to do so. He said that the Election Commission have taken note that there are campaign activities which have resulted in a negative reaction amongst the people and might taint the process of election along with a good democratic practice.
The by-election of Port Dickson on 13th October will display a cornered fight in between PAS candidate Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar, Anwar, and five independent candidates that includes Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, the former Negeri Sembilan mentri besar.
