Stevie Chan Keng Leong, the independent candidates have accused Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of making an attempt to bribe voters with the promise of the development of projects for Port Dickson before the Saturday by-election. The Twitter personality has claimed for the free online tuition provision by Anwar on the month of October on 4th at Grand Beach Resort in Negri Sembilan town and the other development promises which have been made during the campaign in the constituency which had violated the relevant election laws.
By announcing the potential upcoming projects and programs to the voters and by sponsoring an online tuition programme for free for the students of Port Dickson, it is believed that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has violated the Section 10(a), as well as (b) of Election Offense Act 1954 that is related to bribery.
The provision in the Election Offences Act which is related to lending or making promises by the said person or someone on his behalf with the make the voters vote or refrain from casting the vote. People who have been found guilty of such offense is going to be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 2 years, minimum RM1,000 and maximum of RM5,000 or both.
Chan made the comment as a part of the police report which he had filed in Port Dickson against Anwar. The report talks of the detailed offenses where Chan states Anwar during the ceramah has promised people who had been present that three projects had lined up for the Port Dickson with his nomination.
Chan had promised a five star tourism project in the report, education programmes, and an aviation program. The tuition session which had been mentioned has violated the Act. He lodged a police report since he noticed that the culture of giving gift and making sweet promises that shackled previous election for several years is still continuing. Chan is contesting against Anwar for the parliamentary sear with 5 other contenders.
