SHAH ALAM – A single mother who initially sentenced to 30 days jail time for violating the movement control order had her sentenced commuted to jay paying the RM1,000 fine after the High Court granted her request for a more lenient punishment.
Judicial Commissioner Norsharidah Awang said she had considered that B. Lisa Christina was a single mother and already served 8 days jail time.”I hope this teaches you a lesson. You have to follow the MCO. If you do it again, I would not hesitate to hand a heavier punishment.”The violator will serve two weeks jail time if she failed to pay the fine.
The Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court sentenced Lisa Christina to a 30-day imprisonment as she pleaded guilty under Section 6 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or six months imprisonment or both, if convicted.She was arrested at a staircase area near a playground at Jalan SM 1, Taman Subang Mas in Subang Jaya at 4.45pm last April 12.Lawyer Datuk Suraj Singh, her representative confirmed that she is paying the fine today.
