Shopee has formed a collaboration with Malayan Banking Bhd and Visa to launch the Maybank Shopee Credit Card, the lifestyle and e-commerce Platinum card. Shopee said the launch came at a time when more Malaysians switched to e-commerce to get their basics, with customers spending more time on Shopee a week on average of 20 per cent.

New card users will be rewarded with Shopee Coins for all their purchases whether online or offline and anytime or anywhere. Also, cardholders can receive more bonuses while spending during selected promotions through Shopee and on the 28th of each month.

The accumulated Shopee Coins allow users to offset potential platform purchases, and redeem vouchers including food and beverage (F&B) and Daily Coins Rewards services available on the app. In addition, earnings beyond 5,000 Shopee Coins per month will be rewarded in the form of Maybank TreatsPoints which may be used by cardholders to redeem Maybank gifts.

Ian Ho, regional managing director of Shopee, said the partnership was intended to support Malaysians with increasing living costs amid Covid-19’s socio-economic pressures. Maybank community financial services group chief executive Datuk John Chong said the bank is continuously looking for ways to broaden its diverse offerings and privileges to suit the changing lifestyle of customers.

He said Maybank saw a 43 percent rise in its e-commerce platform card billings between 2017 and 2019, suggesting a major move towards online shopping. This partnership with Shopee will allow us to build value for our customers, tap into the growth in e-commerce spending by Malaysians and thus give us a competitive advantage in further strengthening our card business leadership.
