KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Minister, Syed Saddiq, wants to ensure e-sports’ development plan to be supported by the government saying that gaming is one aspect of life that can unite all Malaysians.

Syed Saddiq says that the government, through the E-sports Strategic Development Plan, will allocate RM20 million from the budget next year.

The Youth and Sports Ministry is also proposing to organize a league system for e-sports to produce talents for international competitions.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng recognized the huge potential of e-sports and has proposed the allocation on Budget 2020 for the development of the sport. Esports will be featured as a medal sport at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines and the upcoming Asian Games 2022.
