PETALING JAYA: Party’s disciplinary body has summoned former Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein over alleged breach of party constitution and for disobeying party orders.
A letter was sent to Hishammuddin on Dec 13, according to Umno disciplinary board chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali, instructing the former minister to attend the hearing at the Umno headquarters at PWTC on Dec 26.
“I can confirm that, ” he said briefly in a text message yesterday.
Umno was committed in its agenda to form the government through the “legitimate and democratic way”, putting to rest concerns among Umno members over the alleged attempts by several of its lawmakers to form a backdoor government, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said during the party’s annual general assembly.
When questioned whether Hishammuddin was called in because of his meeting with PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Apandi said that it was untrue.
“It is confidential, ” Apandi said.
Such offences are subject to punishment that ranges from a warning to sacking.
Offenders may also be stripped of membership rights and barred from taking part in party elections.
It was reported that several Umno leaders including Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, have called the disciplinary body to take action against Hishammuddin for his alleged involvement in influencing party leaders to support the leadership of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
Hishammuddin’s action was clearly against the party’s supreme council decision not to have any cooperation with any component parties from Pakatan Harapan, Lokman, who is Umno supreme council member, said.
It was reported on Nov 18, that Azmin, who is Economic Affairs Minister, met with 22 Umno MPs, including Hishammuddin, at his house in Putrajaya.
Hishammuddin commented and denied the allegations that he led the meeting between several Umno MPs were denied and said that the accusation was “not true”.
“It was not me who planned the meeting. But if the Umno’s disciplinary board wants to investigate me, I am ready. There is nothing for me to hide, ” Hishammuddin said.
