Recent post reports from Malaysia state that following the retirement of Datuk Lee Chong Wei, the Youth and Sports Ministry wishes that the player stays with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to assist the country in winning more games.
The prime minister, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman further states that as the ‘sparring sessions’ with younger athletes are ongoing, the assistance of Datuk Lee Chong Wei is needed.
The ministry’s recent information state that Chong Wei wishes to collaborate with an academy in Kedah for building badminton practices. This caused an alarmed Dewan Rakyat to state that the sports association for starters will allow Lee Chong Wei some time to rest and give him space.
This was said as an answer to a question by Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz who interrogated whether the ministry was planning to utilize Chong Wei’s assistance to develop more high-performance badminton players.
Later, the Olympic Council of Malaysia (MOM), in agreement with Syed Saddiq stated that the ministry has planned to employ Chong Wei as the national contingent’s Chef-de-Mission for the 2020 Olympics in Japan. He is to be the coach, mentor, and guide for young athletes who will soon bring Malaysia her first gold medal in the upcoming Olympic Games.
